Week 1, Tweak 1: If you're setting OUTCOME goals, here's how to make them more effortless..
Know which type of goal you're setting and how to set it up for more ease, joy and of course, success!
The Idea
I tend to come across three key types of goal: Outcome, Project, and System/Routine. Outcomes Goals are in some ways those traditional goals, the OGs, shall we call them?!
They focus on attaining a particular outcome, obvious, I know: e.g. buying the dream house, getting the dream job, getting the dream partner - a lot of the word dream!
They could also include achieving a particular run time, or other measurable personal best, or a particular healing outcome too.
Some examples of client outcome goals that are regularly brought to me are: achieving significant business growth, getting the next promotion, figuring out and orchestrating the next career move or viable entrepreneurial work, losing weight or another health target, improving visibility at work, improving relationships at work.
The vast majority of these goals will contain elements that are out of our control.
The common pitfall is not recognising that the outcome is not entirely within our control.
Trying to force the outcome within a timeframe by making it ‘SMART’ (Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timebound) is like the kiss of death to an outcome goal. Save SMART for project and system goals which we discuss on the podcast. This can obviously lead to frustration and even giving up on the goal earlier than needed, or burning out in achieving the goal.
So what’s the best framework to approach and achieve Outcome Goals (OGs) with ease? And what OGs am I working on?
